Jet Set Radio and Crazy Taxi could both be receiving big reboots at SEGA, according to a report from Bloomberg. According to the report, both games would be part of Sega’s Super Game initiative where the publisher is looking at classic titles in its back catalogue to create new games that will provide ongoing revenue. Apparently, the success of Epic’s Fortnite has been the catalyst for this move so expect live service titles.

Could Jet Set Radio be coming back?

The Crazy Taxi reboot has been in development for the last year according to Bloomberg’s sources, whereas Jet Set Radio is in an earlier stage of development. Neither game is confirmed to be releasing yet, as both projects are at stages where they could still be cancelled. If development does continue the Crazy Taxi reboot would likely launch in 2024 or 2025. A potential release window for the Jet Set Radio reboot has not been speculated upon.

The Super Game project is being led by former PlayStation executive Shuji Utsumi. The project is focusing on at least four titles, with Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio being two of them. A third title is allegedly a first person shooter in development at one of SEGA’s European studios. SEGA is looking for a variety of revenue streams for its long term future, but has previously ruled out NFTs, as long as gamers do not want them. The publisher has also partnered with Netflix for a new animated Sonic The Hedgehog show. The company has also teased a new Sonic game for this year.

SEGA has not provided any comment regarding this rumour, and it is unlikely to do so until either Crazy Taxi or Jet Set Radio are ready for the public spotlight, instead of them both being in the early stages of the development lifecycle where they could get cancelled.
