Warner Bros. has announced that a closed alpha for their Smash Bros.-like game MultiVersus will start next week on 19th May and run until 27th May. It will be available across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC with full cross-play support.
To register for the closed alpha, just head to MultiVersus.com and sign up for a chance to get a test spot. It’s not a free-for-all, but requires invites.
The closed alpha will feature the team-based 2v2 brawling mode with a variety of characters that include Batman, Shaddy, Bugs Bunny and Arya Stark. Developer Player First Games has released a gameplay video showing two lead members of the team facing off against a pair of pro Fighting Game Community gamers.
Speaking of pro fighters, WB announced that there will be a MultiVersus 2v2 tournament held at Evo 2022, which runs from 5-7th August in Las Vegas.
Announced last November, MultiVersus is going to be a free to play game and it will also support cross platform play. Player First Games is the development team behind the game. The studio has confirmed that MultiVersus will have rollback netcode for its online play. The game has been confirmed for PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.
So far the officially revealed roster includes Arya Stark, Bugs Bunny, Batman, Finn, Jake, Garnet, Harley Quinn, Reindog, Shaggy, Steven Universe, Superman, Tom & Jerry, and Wonder Woman. That is just the opening roster with more characters to be revealed later on, along with more maps and customisation options – MultiVersus will almost certainly be going down the seasonal content route.
MultiVersus will focus on co-op play with teams of two playing together to face off against other teams, but there is also a solo mode for those who prefer it. Modes include 2v2, 1v1, and Free For All.
