Dragon Quest Treasures has been revealed as a new spin off title from the mainline Dragon Quest series. Square Enix has not released much information, with that to come in June, but just from the teaser trailer we can glean a bit. Taking the lead roles in Dragon Quest Treasures will be Dragon Quest XI characters Erik and Mia. We also know from the trailer that the pair are off to a new land to find treasure. Details on the land or what the pair are seeking have not been confirmed.
Dragon Quest at 35 – the history of a JRPG icon
This is not the only Dragon Quest game to have been revealed in the last year. Back in May 2021, during the 35th anniversary celebrations Square Enix announced Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fates. No information has been revealed about the Flames of Fate aside from the fact it is going to be darker than previous Dragon Quest titles, and the battle system will be tweaked. It will also be running in Unreal Engine 5.
In our Dragon Quest XI review, Dom wrote, “While Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age doesn’t push the boundaries of RPG design in any new way, it is an enjoyable and refined return to the Dragon Quest franchise. Some might decry its lack of ambition, but for fans of the genre and the series, new experiences like this are few and far between.”
