Creative Assembly’s epic Total War: Warhammer trilogy is getting even more epic-er, as Total War: Warhammer 3 Immortal Empires has been revealed in a new trailer. The trilogy-uniting DLC campaign will be going into beta in Q3 2022 – anywhere from July to September.

The free Immortal Empires DLC follows in the footsteps of the Mortal Empires DLC for Total War: Warhammer 2. These are grand campaign maps that unite the different regions depicted in the three Total War: Warhammer games. Each game had its particular landmasses and races that vie for victory, but were deliberately kept separate from one another for the main game releases.

Immortal Empires will combine all three, so now the Skaven from the western reaches of the Warhammer world can go and attack Grand Cathay on the eastern side. The full and varied forces of Chaos can go and meet, and potentially ally with the Vampire Counts, and plenty more besides. The content is free, but you will need to own all three Total War: Warhammer games in order to play the full world map.

Considering the scale of this project and the way that it unites three games that span a good few years of technological changes and advances in the game engines, it’s not surprising that Creative Assembly are branding this as a beta for its initial launch.

Total War Warhammer 3 launched earlier this year to glowing reviews, rounding out the strategy game saga. In our own review we scored the threequel a triumphant 9/10:

“If Total War Warhammer 3 is the beginning of the end for Creative Assembly’s fantasy series, then it’s going out on a high note. The game takes several steps forward in how the campaign works, how it builds toward climactic battles and then how those battles take place, and there’s plenty of quality of life improvements for the Total War series as a whole.”
