Crown Wars: The Black Prince is one of the newest reveals from Nacon during its stream today. The game is a turn based strategy game set during the Hundred Years War as various factions fight for control of the biggest kingdom in Europe. On top of the regular war there is also a more malevolent force lurking in the background that you need to protect your people from.
The trailer sets up the story and shows some gameplay though the small bits of footage seem to show very small fights, and even then little action. The full description for Crown War: The Black Prince reads, “As the Hundred Year War rages on, assume the head of a noble family and seek out glory in this tactical turn-based strategy game. Fend off enemy factions and battle an evil force that has corrupted the highest echelons of society, exploiting the conflict for its own gain through a violent and mysterious cult. From your castle, recruit, equip and train soldiers to fight your enemies and protect the population. As you face the challenges thrown at you, your skills in management and diplomacy will be put to the test. With the world on the brink of collapse, there is only one solution: Evil must be defeated.”
The Black Prince title could allude to Edward the Black Prince who was the heir to the English throne, and son of King Edward the Third. The game takes place in 1356 when The Black Prince would have been 26, prime years for fighting in a war. During this year Edward The Black Prince would have been leading an army in Aquitaine, which could again tie into the events of Crown Wars. All speculative but the historical links are very much there.
Crown Wars: The Black Prince has been confirmed for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. It is expected to release in 2023.
