Juventus is going to be return to the FIFA franchise in FIFA 23, EA has announced. The move comes three years after the Italian club signed an exclusivity deal with Konami back in 2019. That deal meant Juventus would be exclusive to eFootball PES. However, it seems that deal is now over allowing EA to come back in and snap up Juventus for FIFA 23.
Claudio Marchisio, former Juventus player and legend, was brought in to announce the renewal of the partnership seeing his former club come back to FIFA. This is not the only FIFA 23 announcement from EA recently. Last week, EA confirmed that FIFA 23 will feature two women’s leagues – the English Women’s Super League and the French Division 1 Arkema – finally expanding the support of women’s football beyond the national teams that were first added in FIFA 16. That also ties in nicely to FIFA 23 featuring both the men’s World Cup in Qatar this winter, and the women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand which takes place next summer.
In our preview for FIFA 23, Stefan wrote, “Year on year they highlight different areas, often bringing what feels like a quite iterative, evolutionary game to market. There’s something symbolic about FIFA 23, though, and it feels like EA are leaning into that. Sure, their next football game will build on these same foundations, but they’ll want to leave a high water mark for the next FIFA branded game that comes along.”
This will be the last FIFA game from EA. Back in May, it was confirmed EA and FIFA would be parting ways after EA elected not to renew the FIFA license due to costs. From 2023, EA’s football games will be known as EA Sports FC. However, FIFA as a brand will not be consigned to history it seems. The organisation has come out and said it will partner with other developers to create FIFA games, and that they will be the best ones for players. At the moment there is no news on who will step up to develop those new FIFA games.
FIFA 23 will launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Stadia, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on September 30th, with early access for the Ultimate Edition on 27th September.
