Logitech and Chinese gaming giant Tencent have announced they are working together to create a new handheld console that will “support multiple cloud gaming services”. They have already revealed that they are working with the Xbox Cloud Gaming and NVIDIA GeForce NOW teams so both those services will be supported.
“Logitech G’s leadership in PC and console gaming gear make them an ideal partner to help us realize the vision of bringing a better gaming experience to gamers around the globe,” said Daniel Wu, general manager of Tencent Games Smart Solution Innovation Lab. “Today marks the start of a new opportunity for our companies to further push the frontiers of gaming devices.”
“As one of the leading global platforms for game development, publishing and operations, Tencent Games has been at the forefront of innovation and it’s why we partnered with them,” said Ujesh Desai, general manager of Logitech G. “As someone that grew up playing video games, the idea of being able to stream and play AAA games almost anywhere is super exciting, and we can’t wait to show everyone what we’ve been working on.”
The Logitech G Gaming Handheld console will be on sale later this year, which is rather surprising. Given that the console streams games it’s not going to need to be that powerful so the price could be very attractive.
This could be a big win for Microsoft and they barely have to lift a finger, just sell the Xbox Game Pass to those who have purchased the console. There is no indication that Sony are involved or that the PlayStation Plus streaming tiers will be available.
However, launching a new console is always a risky business and we have seen many make big claims but fail at launch. Atari’s console has not made a splash, perhaps because of the price point which is more than Xbox Series S, and who cant forget Ouya. Well everyone as it turns out. Sometimes a gimmick works, a console that looked like a boob sold out in seconds.

Maybe I’m weird, but if it can’t play games locally it’s not a console for me.
