Hand-drawn Metroidvania, Islets, has an official release date locked in. Created by solo developer, Kyle Thompson, and published by Armor Game Studios, the title will launch on PC – as well as Nintendo Switch and Xbox One – later this month on August 24, 2022. An Xbox Series X|S version is also in the pipeline though a PlayStation release has not been announced at this time.
A look at the Islets release date trailer will give you a good idea of what to expect from this upcoming indie Metroidvania. For fans of the genre, it ticks plenty of boxes, from its densely populated world map to challenging boss encounters.
We also get a glimpse at one of Iko’s unlockable powers, the Cloud Shot. A true test of any Metroidvania game is how it gradually folds in new combat and traversal abilities, sprouting new pathways from previously discovered areas.
