UPDATE: Ubisoft have confirmed my suspicions, they are not making a Blade game.

Original story below…

A number of images have appeared on Instagram that hint that Ubisoft may be working on a Blade game.  Actor Edwin Gaffney posted two images on Instagram, the first shows Edwin and another actor, Alex Martin, with large swords.

The text reads: “That’s a wrap! ?✨It is always a pleasure working on great projects but what makes it even better is working with great people! Thank you @alexmartin.am for the talent and energy you bring to the set you rock! ???? #artist #action #actorslife #actor #mocap #performancecapture #acting #actinglife #ubisoft #ubisoftgames”

It’s the second image that has caused speculation that Ubisoft are working on a Blade game. Here we see Edwin holding up a slate that clearly says “Production: Marvel” and the director is Bassam Tariq, the man who is slated to director the upcoming Blade movie.

Let the hype train begin… or not.  For a start, why would Marvel be producing a Ubisoft game, and why would the film director, currently deep in to pre-production of the Blade film, be directing mo-cap for a game?

A little further investigation – and by that I mean I went and looked at Alex Martin’s Instagram, which no one else seems to have done – reveals that this is almost certainly a joke. Alex has reposted a video from YouTube that hypes up the speculation for a Blade game, but adds the following comment:

“Nice article but …On the Internet?: sometimes it’s true?, sometimes it’s just speculations??‍♂️… and sometimes we are just making jokes on set?.”

Edwin has commented underneath with a couple of emojis that seem to suggest he also agrees this is a on-set jape designed to wind up the internet.

If you do want to play as Blade then he is appearing in  Marvel’s Midnight Suns, the latest game from XCOM developer, Firaxis. This isn’t an action title like Marvel Ultimate Alliance or a multiplayer RPG like Marvel’s Avengers – instead you’ll engage in turn-based tactics, playing cards from customisable decks that represent each hero’s powers.
