Rockstar Games has issued a statement following the now confirmed leak of GTA 6. In the statement, the company confirms that the footage that has been shared is early development footage of the next GTA game, and that the data was accessed illegally. Rockstar has also confirmed in its statement that it does not see any long term impact on the development of GTA 6. You can read the full statement below.
“We recently suffered a network intrusion in which an unauthorized third party illegally accessed and downloaded confidential information from our systems, including early development footage of the next Grand Theft Auto. At this time, we do not anticipate any disruption to our live game services nor any long-term effect on the development of our ongoing projects.Â
We are extremely disappointed to have any details of our next game shared with you all in this way. Our work on the next Grand Theft Auto game will continue as planned and we remain as committed as ever to delivering the experience to you, our players, that truly exceeds your expectations. We will update everyone again soon and, of course, will properly introduce you to the next game when it is ready. We want to thank everyone for their ongoing support through this situation.Â
The leak confirmed that GTA 6 will be taking players back to Vice City in a more modern setting, and confirmed that there will be at least two protagonists to play as. One of those is a woman who appears to be named Lucia, while the other is a man called Jason. It is not yet known if there will be a third character like there was in GTA V. The footage from yesterday included a diner being robbed, a character aiming their gun from a car, a walk through a club, and another NPC going on a conspiracy theory rant.
