Streets of Rogue 2 has officially been announced by Matt Dabrowski, with the game expected to enter early access in 2023. The sequel to Streets of Rogue is going to be bigger by being an open world experience which will be filled with cities, caves, forests, and outposts to explore and fight in. Streets of Rogue 2 will initially be released on PC, Mac, and Linux, with console releases to follow later.
Streets of Rogue 2’s early access phase could last from a year to up to 2.5 years depending on what happens as development continues. The sequel is also different in that it is a procedurally generated open world rather than a rogue lite like Streets of Rogue was. Gone is the level-by-level progression with players instead able to get more powerful as they explore the world and get into encounters. There will be many more activities to take part in including crafting, building and farming.
Here is a short description of some things you could do in Streets of Rogue 2. “The game is set in a huge and seamless randomly generated world filled with cities, forests, islands, caves, and the occasional cannibal outpost. You are free to explore and create your own story as you please, whether that means gaining fame and glory through your good deeds throughout the land, forming a small-but-loyal army of miscreants who stage a government takeover, or getting rich with a farming empire.”
The main plot of Streets of Rogue 2 has not been revealed yet, but the set up is that the main character is starting from scratch in a new land. There is no need to play Streets of Rogue to understand the story of Streets of Rogue 2, but the games do take place in the same universe. The game will feature four player co-op both locally and online, with there being scope to potentially increase the number of online players. The game will require a bit more power than the original Streets of Rogue, with at least 8GB of RAM required.
