Thunderful and developer Wishfully have released a new developer commentary video to showcase 18 minutes of Planet of Lana gameplay. This gorgeous side-scrolling adventure game is coming to Xbox, PC and Game Pass in Spring 2023.
Creative director Adam Stjarnljus and co-director and script writer Klas Eriksson delve into an area from relatively early in the game, from when Lana befrieds the little black creature known as Mui, running through lush fields and solving some simple environmental puzzles that involve commanding Mui to stay, come and go. There’s some nice insights, such as with the made up language that Lana has when talking to Mui.
Later on, it shows some trickier puzzles that put Mui in a little bit of peril from other creatures from this alien world, and then the pair  are endangered by encounters with the robotic invaders that have sent Lana on her adventure.
We got to go hands on with the game at Gamescom 2022, playing the same section as is seen in the new video. I said in our preview, “Planet of Lana grabbed people’s attention when it was first announced thanks in no small part to its gorgeous art style, and it’s great to see that Wishfully is backing that up with solid gameplay, puzzles and thoroughly delivering on the cuteness of Mui.”

Having debuted at E3 2021, each trailer for Planet of Lana has shown more and more of this adventure. It feels like steady progress has been made, but it is one of the countless games that has been delayed from this year to the next.
It’s absolutely a game you should keep an eye on when it comes out next year.
