Capcom has announced the next Resident Evil Showcase will be held on Thursday 20th October, at 11PM UK time, and that it will feature the Resident Evil 4 remake, Resident Evil Village Gold Edition and more.

It’s clearly the spookiest time of the year, as notable horror franchises are clawing their way out of the woodwork for their time in the faint moonlight.

Resident Evil 4 is the headliner, the long-rumoured remake having been confirmed by Capcom earlier this year, and with a release date set for 24th March 2023. Capcom will be giving the defining action horror game a revamp in the vein of Resident Evil 2 and 3 remakes, refitting the game with modern graphics and updating the gameplay to current standards. Of course, Resi 4 pioneered the over the shoulder horror game, but we’re still worlds away from the feel of mid-2000s games in how current games feel to play.

Even with a reputation as strong as Resi 4’s the game will have some stiff competition within the survival horror genre with The Callisto Project and Dead Space Remake releasing in the coming months. There’s also the upcoming Silent Hill announcement this week for this stream to contend with.

Before we get to Resi 4, we have this months’ release of Resident Evil Village Gold Edition and a bucket of new DLC content. This will include the Shadows of Rose story expansion that leaps forward from the ending of the main game and features Ethan’s daughter Rose as the protagonist. There’s also an expansion to Mercenaries mode, and the game will have a new third person camera mode.

We went hands on with Shadows of Rose last month, Nick saying, “Shadows of Rose looks like it’s going to be a lot of fun. With it being set so far in the future, it will be interesting to see how this affects the RE universe as a whole. For now though, it’s nice to have more action in the Village, with a slightly different take from the survival horror we are used to.”

Resident Evil Village Gold Edition and Shadows of Rose are coming out on 28th October. Expect to see a little bit about the RE:Verse multiplayer game as well, which is also due out at the same time.
