Paradox Interactive has announced that Northern Lords, the first ‘flavour pack’ for the hit grand strategy game Crusader Kings 3 is coming to the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S version of the game on 17th November. The pack can be bought alone, but is also bundled in with the Royal Edition of the game.
Originally released for CK3 on PC back in March 2021, Northern Lords as a flavour pack is about adding depth to the game world, as opposed to seismic new gameplay changes (though there can be some gameplay elements). This means new character art, new music, new 3D models, events, decisions and more.
With this expansion, Norse characters may abandon their homes and lead their host to foreign lands to try and establish new kingdoms. You’ll be backed by Jomsvikings and Shieldmaidens as you go, while poets will compose songs to tell of your successes (and failures).
The DLC will also add new Norse dynastic legacies, Norse blot sacrifices, trials by combat, and plenty of thematic events to add extra colour.
Crusader Kings 3 has been a major hit for Paradox, first as a PC release, and then as a rather good adaptation of their grand strategy format to controller-based play on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. In our Crusader Kings 3 Console Review, I wrote:
“Get used to the slightly cumbersome controls, menu heavy play and perhaps choose for a slower pace, and Crusader Kings 3’s innate charms can still shine through on console. This is still a game that’s all about dynasty, family and roleplaying your way through the ages, and it’s still just as compelling as ever.”
