Capcom has announced that the free VR mode for Resident Evil Village will launch for PlayStation VR 2 alongside the launch of the next generation PSVR headset on 22nd February 2023.

The VR mode for PSVR 2 will be a free DLC for Resident Evil Village – whether you have the standard edition or the Gold Edition release, this will be available as a separate DLC download. It enables you to play the whole of Village’s main story mode in VR – perfect for all the people weirdly aroused by the very tall Lady Dimitrescu.

Village will make full use of PSVR 2, using eye-tracking to assist the game’s rendering, 3D audio, and the new PSVR 2 Sense controllers. Vibration, recoil and resistance will be applied using the Sense controller haptics, while you’ll have a physical motion to reload your gun, be able to hold two weapons independently, and physically use the knife.

This will, in some ways, be a prelude to the PSVR 2 content included with Resident Evil 4 remake, which is coming out in March 2023.

The VR mode for RE Village is the icing on the cake of the survival horror game. The game launched in early 2021 to plenty acclaim, but was augmented this year with the Gold Edition and Winters’ Expansion that added a new third person mode, the ‘Shadows of Rose’ story DLC, and boosted the Mercenaries Mode with new content. VR mode will end this chapter of the venerable franchise, in a way. There was also the very, very delayed release of Re:Verse, but that’s another matter, really.

In our review of Resident Evil Village, Nick scored the game a fantastic 9/10. Here’s what he had to say:

“Lady Dimitrescu’s towering presence is just the tip of the iceberg of what Resident Evil Village offers. This game takes everything you know about the iconic horror series and dials it up to eleven!”
