A new 10-minute video has been released, showcasing Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty gameplay and giving us a good long look at Team Ninja’s latest Soulsbourne game. Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is out on 3rd March for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, Xbox One and PC. It will also be on Xbox Game Pass from day one.
Team Ninja fans might have preferred to see them announce Nioh 3 last year, but Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is the next best thing, combining the Soulsbourne action RPG template of Nioh to an historical setting that publisher Koei Tecmo so regularly explores with its Dynasty Warriors and Romance of the Three Kingdom series.
So this game sees Team Ninja jumping from Japanese mythology to Chinese, with Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty taking similar creative liberties with the time period it visits. You’ll play as a nameless militia soldier this time, fighting to survive through a dark fantasy version of the Later Han Dynasty, employing swordplay based on Chinese martial arts and tapping into an innate power within them.
From this early area of the game, there were plenty of varied enemy encounters, from beasts with large flail tails, demonic giant hedgehogs with wild rolling attacks, long-armed monkeys and all the way up to fearsome bosses. In true Soulsbourne fashion, they were rather difficult for IGN’s player to overcome, so we saw a fair few defeats to enemies before cutting to a more successful attempt to beat them.
What do you think of this latest chunk of gameplay?
