Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja have released a story trailer for Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, their upcoming fantasy Soulslike set in during the Later Han period of Chinese history. Witness some of the demons, monsters and famous warlords that you’ll be battling against when the game comes out in March.
The story trailer shows off some of the story and cutscenes that will feature in the game, with the in-game cinematics supervised by Kenji Tanigaki, the action director of the Rurouni Kenshin movie series. The game will follow a nameless militia soldier that strives to diffuse a conspiracy surrounding a mysterious elixir, battling demons and monsters along the way, as well as coming face to face with warlords and military leaders including Cao Cao, Liu Bei and Sun Jian.
The game slots into the Soulslike genre popularised by FromSoftware, though Team Ninja has had great success with this breed of challenging RPG with the PlayStation exclusive Nioh series – Wo Long will be going cross-platform, though. Sticking with some of the genre’s tropes, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty will feature online multiplayer, with both invasions from other players looking to test their mettle against a rival human, and the ability to recruit other players to fight by your side.
Earlier this month, 10 minutes of gameplay from Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty was released, showing off an area from early in the game with plenty of varied enemies to face, including beasts with large flail tails, demonic giant hedgehogs with wild rolling attacks, long-armed monkeys and a glimpse of one of the game’s fearsome bosses.
Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is coming to Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC on 3rd March 2023, and will be available on day one via Xbox Game Pass for both console and PC.
Koei Tecmo are doing a digital pre-order bonuses of some Zhuque Armour, but in addition to this is an early purchase bonus for both physical and digital versions of the game. Buy Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty by 16th March and you’ll receive special Baihu Armor. It’s a nice move so you can have a peep at some reviews and early gameplay before putting down your hard earned cash.
