Developer Game Science is aiming for a Black Myth: Wukong release date in Summer 2024. Powered by Unreal Engine 5, the upcoming action title has been in and out of the spotlight, wowing gamers with its stunning visuals.
To celebrate this latest milestone, the Chinese studio has created a new trailer. It’s an… interesting watch to say the least, splicing stop-motion-style animation with clips from the game and confirmation of its 2024 launch window.
From what’s been shown, it definitely falls within the “soulslike” genre with a predominant focus on skill-based melee combat against wandering warriors and a bestiary of mystical creatures. Expect pulse-pounding boss battles and a potentially steep learning curve.
Black Myth: Wukong is inspired by the 16th century Chinese novel “Journey to The West” by Wu Cheng’en. According to the official website, the game will be a single purchase title with the possibility of additional DLC after launch. The release The studio already has plans to release other titles in the Black Myth series, though this will no doubt depend on Wukong’s success.
Game Science has yet to confirm which platforms its flagship title will appear on. However, an FAQ on the official Black Myth website says it will arrive on PC and mainstream consoles with the possibility of a cloud-based version if the tech is robust enough to keep pace with Wukong’s action.
If you can’t wait for Black Myth: Wukong then the latest game from Ninja Gaiden developer, Team Ninja, may tide you over. Launching later this year, Wo Long: Fall Dynasty fuses ancient Chinese history and folklore with high stakes gameplay that will feel instantly familiar to those who enjoy the Nioh series.
Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is coming to Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC on 3rd March 2023, and will be available on day one via Xbox Game Pass for both console and PC.
