Game Science has, as promised, provided an update on the progress of Black Myth: Zhong Kui, the second title in the Black Myth series.
The game looks impressive already but is very much a work-in-progress, some of the action shown on screen is described as “experimental” and may not feature in the final game.
The game is described as “a proper single-player ARPG” that is rooted in Chinese mythology and folklore. The YouTube video has the following text, which gives us a vague idea of the story.
With blood beneath my blade, I paint new rouge upon my face,
An old friend visits, in a dream taking place.
Old faces, bygone deeds, have vanished from my sight,
Still, I remember every one, by day and through the night.
Those bound by love grow old; the righteous road runs long;
Today’s notes of grace or grudge define not the final song.
Who says the Underworld is far away?
All the better—once more I’ll walk along.
“As you may have gathered from the latest gameplay footage, we hope to preserve the many things players loved about the previous Black Myth title, while also eagerly exploring distinctive gameplay tailored to the new protagonist, cutting-edge technical features, and differentiated approaches to storytelling.” say Game Science.
Black Myth: Zhong Kui was announced during Gamescom‘s Opening Night Live Show of 2026 but without any footage as the title was in very early development. The game is scheduled for PC and “major consoles” but there is no release date, “It won’t be quick” say Game Science.
We recently sent Miguel to The Black Myth: Wukong Global Concert in New York, you can read about that here.
