Gran Turismo 7 PSVR 2 will let you play the full game in VR, including online

Gran Turismo 7 Ferrari Vision GT patch 1.27

Polyphony Digital President Kazunori Yamauchi has confirmed that the full Gran Turismo 7 game will be playable in VR thanks to the free PlayStation VR 2 upgrade that will arrive on 22nd February – it will be a PSVR 2 launch title.

All of the single player races will be available to play using PSVR 2, on all tracks and with any of the game’s more than 450 cars. PSVR 2 will also let you head into online races and modes. The sole exception to this rule is 2-player splitscreen, which does kind of make sense.

We’re thrilled that Gran Turismo 7 will be a PS VR2 launch title! Through a free upgrade, for those who have already purchased Gran Turismo 7, players will experience all cars and tracks in VR like never before. GT7 in VR takes full advantage of PS VR2’s next gen features. With eye tracking and foveated rendering, players will experience stunning visual fidelity while racing in any of the 450+ cars. While 2-player splitscreen races are not supported in VR, all other races, including online races, will be available. From the Nürburgring to Tsukuba, tracks can be experienced exactly as they are in real life.

The free upgrade to Gran Turismo 7 had long been hoped for, but was finally announced during CES 2023 at the start of this month. A short snippet of VR gameplay was shown, demonstrating a full race situation around the recently added track Road Atlanta. The presentation left plenty of questions, which Kaz’s follow up has now resolved.

It’s great to have the full game confirmed, after the disappointment of the original PSVR support in Gran Turismo Sport. That restricted you to single car time trials, and while it felt good and natural to drive in GT Sport, this was thoroughly unimpressive. Thankfully GT7 and the power of the PS5 can shoot for much, much more.

Gran Turismo 7 launched for PS5 and PS4 in March 2022, providing great foundations that Polyphony have been able to iterate and improve upon with successive monthly updates. In our GT7 review, I wrote:

“Gran Turismo 7 takes everything that was excellent about GT Sport’s fantastic multiplayer, high fidelity cars and circuits and innovative Scapes mode, and builds up a more traditional GT experience around it. It’s got its own quirky new ideas which will likely be passing diversions to most, but at its core, this is the Gran Turismo you know and love. Broad and accessible, but with depth, nuance and competitive racing for those keen to find it.”

  1. That’s the best birthday present I’ve had in years! I think it’ll be a while until Horizon Call of the Mountain or any other game gets a look in.
    Roll on the 22nd
