The mysteriously delayed PS5 version of Football Manager 2023 will finally arrive on PlayStation 5 on 1st February 2023. As a launch promotion, it will be available at a 20% discount for PS Plus subscribers until 14th February.
Originally intended to release alongside other versions of the game on 8th November 2022, Football Manager 2023 was delayed by “unforeseen circumstances which arose during the submissions and approval process.” We’ve no idea what the underlying reason for this would have been, but given the complexities of certification it could have been almost anything.
Miles Jacobson, Sports Interactive’s Studio Director, said: “We’re delighted with today’s update that we’re finally going to be able to get FM23 Console into the hands of PS5 gamers. Since the initial delay, the team at Sports Interactive and our colleagues at SEGA have worked tirelessly with Sony to overcome the issues and we’re pleased to now have a release candidate ready to launch next week.
“While it’s unusual for us to release a game during a major football transfer window, our priority from the moment our initial launch was postponed was to get the game into the hands of PS5 gamers as quickly as possible. Once all the global transfer windows are closed, we will provide a data update for the PS5 edition in line with the updates for all of our other platforms.”
This will be the first Football Manager to release on PlayStation home consoles for the first time this year, following the famously frank explanation that the game was an Xbox exclusive back in 2020 because Xbox sent them dev kits and Sony didn’t.
While he tested the PC version of FM23, Aran awarded the game a stellar 9/10, saying “Football Manager 2023 is the most complete football management simulator yet, offering players tons of depth, but also letting them decide how deep they want to go. Just like real football, Football Manager 2023 captures the highs and lows of match days while engrossing you in this virtual football world.”
