Rockfish Games has announced that Everspace 2 will get its full 1.0 release for PC on 6th April 2023, with PS5 and Xbox Series X|S ports set to follow in the summer.
Note: If you want to buy the game on PC, then you’ll be best served doing so before 20th February, as the price will increase on that date and move on from its Early Access price point.
Everspace 2 has spent the last two years in Steam Early Access, Rockfish Games gradually updating and expanding their space-faring sequel. Six major content updates have added more star systems to explore, ships to buy, puzzles and challenges, as well as new features, voice acting, and plenty more besides.
With the version 1.0 update, the game will be “complete” with a roughly 30 hour main campaign and more than 90 hours of playtime for completionists. There will be more enemies, rewards, equipment types, cinematics, new boss fights and general bug fixes. There’s one significant change compared to the original vision, which is that the number of star systems has reduced from eight to six, though those six have been expanded with more things to see and do because of this, and there’s a finale that takes place in a bespoke location.
After release? Well, they’re not talking about that yet, but free content is planned for the second half of 2023 and a major expansion scheduled for mid-2024.
It’s come a long way already, but looking back on the initial Early Access release, Miguel said of the game, “Everspace 2 is a wildly ambitious leap from the humble roguelite beginnings of the original game, but so far this Early Access launch proves that Rockfish Games are more than capable of delivering. Plenty of areas still need to be expanded on and fine-tuned, as this is still very much a work in progress with the full release not planned until 2022. If you hop in now, though, what’s available to play is still a hefty and exciting enough experience to keep you entertained for hours.”
