Nintendo closed out the Nintendo Direct stream with a fresh gameplay trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, the Breath of the Wild sequel still locked in for a 12th May 2023 release date on Nintendo Switch.
It’s also now confirmed that the game will be priced at $70 by Nintendo, as was leaked earlier today when the Nintendo Store listing went live and was pulled. This is $10 higher than any Nintendo first party game on Switch to date.
The trailer showcases a lot of the world changes that the latest disaster to befall Hyrule has made to the kingdom’s terrain, with floating island a particularly distinctive feature. Much more importantly, it also gives us glimpses of new Sheikah abilities, manipulating the world and objects in different ways, as well as a bunch of new vehicles that go far beyond the motorbike that was added in the Breath of the Wild DLC. It’s exciting stuff!
Pre-orders are going live for the game tonight, with both a regular version of the game and a special collector’s edition that features a fancy box, steelbook case, a steel poster of the game’s core artwork, an artbook and a pin set with four pins.
Additionally, amiibo fans will be delighted to hear that a Tears of the Kingdom Link amiibo will also be coming out.
‘Sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild’ was announced back at E3 2019, as Nintendo decided to expand what was originally planned as a DLC expansion into a full new game. That original trailer focussed on underground elements, but the real adventure expands high above Hyrule, as last seen in Breath of the Wild. While the game had been planned for release in 2022, Nintendo eventually announced that it will be coming to Nintendo Switch on 12th May 2023.
