Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic 2: The Sith Lords will no longer get the DLC expansion developer Aspyr Media promised when they launched the game on Nintendo Switch last year. To compensate, those who own a copy will receive a complementary Star Wars game for the handheld system, or a Steam copy of KOTOR 2.

The original version of the acclaimed BioWare RPG is known to have had content cut from its Xbox and PC release. What made this latest port of Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic 2 particularly exciting was Apsyr’s goal to finally release this lost chapter as “restored content”.

However, according to the studio, that will no longer be the case. The developers didn’t give a reason why the DLC has been cancelled, leaving the following statement:

Sadly, today we are announcing that the Restored Content DLC for the Nintendo Switch version of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II – The Sith Lords will not be moving forward for release.

We’d like to thank everyone for their continued support by providing a complimentary video game key to players that purchased Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II – The Sith Lords on Nintendo Switch before this announcement. Players may pick a replacement key from the following list:

  • Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II – The Sith Lords on Steam

  • Star Wars: The Force Unleashed on Nintendo Switch
  • Star Wars: Republic Commando on Nintendo Switch
  • Star Wars: Episode I Racer on Nintendo Switch
  • Star Wars: Jedi Knight Jedi Academy on Nintendo Switch
  • Star Wars: Jedi Knight II Jedi Outcast on Nintendo Switch

This is yet another dose of bad news for KOTOR fans. Following its much-hyped debut at the 2021 PlayStation Showcase, we’ve seen nothing of the upcoming Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic Remake on PS5 or PC, another project being helmed by Aspyr Media. It’s almost been a year since we last had a vague update, with news that Saber Interactive have taken over development duties.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2 earned critical acclaim for its deep storytelling, complex characters, and thought-provoking themes. The game’s non-linear narrative, morally ambiguous choices, and well-written companions captivated players. Improved gameplay mechanics, immersive visuals, and a mature exploration of the Star Wars universe further contributed to its praise. KOTOR 2 successfully expanded upon the original game, delivering an impactful sequel that resonated with both critics and fans.

If you’re looking for a gaming fix set within a galaxy far, far away look no further than EA sublime sequel, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.
