As Larian Studios gets closer to the 31st August release date of Baldur’s Gate 3, they’ve now released a little dev diary discussing the game’s rendition of the titular city
Baldur’s Gate in Baldur’s Gate 3 will be a full and seamless rendering of the city. It wasn’t always this way during development, and originally broken up into chunks, but it’s now a full open world to explore and role play through.
The land of Faerûn is besieged by mind flayers from another world. Their army expands by infecting brains with parasitic tadpoles that turn their victims into one of their own. At the start of the game, you too are infected by one of these tadpoles, but as it starts to corrupt you, it also brings mysterious new powers.
Once you reach Baldur’s Gate itself, there’s crowds of people going about their lives, you can apparently talk to pretty much anyone that you meet, and the city itself will already have been shaped somewhat by the decisions you made on the path through the earlier acts in the game. You can also just set it all on fire and be a total baddie.
Oh, they also released a fun little animated short.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is coming out for PC and PS5 on 31st August – an Xbox version is also in development, but being held back by some development snags.
