Nintendo has announced a demo for Pikmin 4 will drop next week on 29th June, ahead of the full game release on 21st July.
Additionally Pikmin 1 & 2 remasters are out on the Nintendo eShop… today!
Pikmin 4 will see you on yet another rescue mission as yet another space mission goes wrong. As before you pluck, lead and throw Pikmin at things you face in the world, with different types of Pikmin, each having different elemental strengths. There’s plenty of “treasures” to find as you explore the surface, but there’s also underground dungeons to explore and new nighttime missions, making use of the new Glow Pikmin to counter the frenzied enemies that you’ll find – they join the team alongside the other new addition, Ice Pikmin.
Pikmin 4 was announced in September last year, reviving the niche action strategy series with an emphasis on accessibility. Shigeru Miyamoto has talked about the concept of ‘Dandori’ being integral to the experience, the term referring to strategic planning and put them into place. You can certainly see that feed into this latest trailer, with time-limited competitive missions.
Seeing this game might pique your interest in the previous games of the series. To that end, there’s new remasters of the original two GameCube games, which are now available either separately or bundled together. A physical release will also be available on 22nd September, but what it means is that the full series is now available to play on Nintendo Switch ahead of the fourth game’s launch next month.
Pikmin 3 came out for Nintendo Switch in 2020, one of the many, many, many games ported from Wii U to Switch. We said in our Pikmin 3 Deluxe review, “Pikmin 3 Deluxe is yet another Wii U transplant though one that slots seamlessly into Switch’s first party line-up. Although unwieldy and slow to start, Nintendo’s charming inventiveness has produced an intriguing, if not excellent, entry in the strategy genre.”
