The Mario Kart meets Battle Royale racing of Stampede: Racing Royale will return for a second public playtest next week, running from 21st to 28th August and playable on PC via Steam.
To take part in the second playtest, you can register your interest to play on the Stampede: Racing Royale Steam page. The game will also be at Gamescom, where it will be playable on the show floor, and with an announcement during the Into the Infinite: A Level Infinite Showcase on 23rd August.
The second playtest will build on the first, with bug fixes and tweaks based on player feedback. The second playtest will pretty much all the same content, with all the same tracks as before, but with new cosmetics added into the mix to show off. As the game heads into Early Access later this year, further content will also be coming along.
The game is a blend of battle royale and kart racing. Racers will join the “Herd” and Stampede Races where you simply have to try and outrace the rest of the field. You’ve got a bunch of destructive weapons to use in order to get ahead, but will obviously have to be aware of other player and their own weapons. You’ll have to survive the cut through three rounds, but only one winner will stand atop the podium at the end.
As a modern multiplayer game, you can expect there to be seasons of themed content, events and challenges to keep players engaged, and you’ll be unlocking new vehicles and customisation options to showcase your personality and in-game accomplishments.
Sumo Digital has a rich history in the kart racing genre, with games like Sonic and All-Star Racing Transformed and Team Sonic Racing coming from the company. The company sprawls across many studios, though, and Stampede: Racing Royale comes from a different team at Sumo Leamington. That team was founded in 2019 with a mobile gaming focus, and then bolstered with the later acquisition of Lab42.
