Nintendo opened up the Direct with a look at Rhythm Heaven Groove (or Rhythm Heaven Groove) in some regions, the latest rhythm action game in the series which is coming to Switch (and Switch 2) on 2nd July.
A key part of the demo was showing how the rhythm gameplay works and how the presentation is mixing things up with special modes like a magical RPG battling mode.
It’s not the first time that the series has had multiplayer – the Wii version, for example – but I believe that four player multiplayer is a first, with all players trying to join in with the timing action. The game promises 80 all-new rhythm games to play solo, while the four-player multiplayer includes 30 co-op and competitive rhythm games.
It’s been a hot minute since the last game in the series arrived for Nintendo 3DS, but looking back to Rhythm Paradise Megamix, we said in our review, “It’s certainly not for the rhythmically challenged, but the games found within Rhythm Paradise Megamix are crazy enough to warrant a look. Crammed full of charm, it serves as an anthology of the franchise so far and a glimpse of its future. Some bits however don’t work, whether they affect the pacing or just don’t fit contextually. It’s worth a punt if you have a passing interest, but not exactly essential.”
