It does look like July 6th, the date we are expecting Microsoft to announce redundancies, is going to be a bloodbath.

Bethesda (Fallout), ID (Quake), Arkane (Dishonored), Machine Games (Wolfenstein), Zenimax Online (Elder Scrolls Online), Ninja Theory (Hellblade), Compulsion Games (South of Midnite), Undead Labs (State of Decay),and Double Fine (Pyschonauts) are all rumoured to be losing staff or, in some cases, closing or being sold off.

It had been reported that Obsidian was up for sale, but these claims have now been retracted.

You can now add Rare (Sea of Thieves) to that list as Patrick Garratt from Edge has posted on BlueSky “Was told last night that Rare’s on the block.” The same information was also reported in the Edge newsletter

3D Realms co-founder, George Broussard, took to X to report on what he had heard. “Pretty much everything outside of Bethesda has lost money or barely broken even/made a little for a while. New MS mgmt won’t care about potential, quality, legacy or anything other than profit right now,” he posted.

Just recently, hundreds of staff at Destiny creator Bungie were laid off after it was announced that support for Destiny 2 was ending.

IO Interactive and Microsoft have already confirmed that Microsoft has pulled out of a partnership for Project Fantasy, which looked like it was going to be a fantasy RPG project Xbox exclusive.
