While gaming tends to focus on the criminal-catching action of the boys in blue, a few developers have seen the possibilities of their firefighting brethren, ready to save the public from a swathe of burning buildings. As such, Aerosoft and Chronos North have revealed Firefighters Code Red, a new firefighting simulation game scheduled for release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The question is, do you get to save a cat from a tree?
It’s little surprise to see the trailer focusing on putting fires out, but there’s definitely some impressive fire and water physics at play as you have to control the flow of the water and focus on stopping the fire from spreading any further. There’s clearly domestic call-outs, as well as the appearance of at least one convenience store, with Aerosoft and Chronos North touting 30 different locations inspired by the US, from homes and stores through to outdoor fires and collapsing structures.
Realistic physics extend beyond the fire and the life-saving water, with the game realistically modelling heat, smoke, grease fires, backdrafts and more, giving you and your team plenty to think about. You’re going to be able to tackle every mission solo, but you can also play in online co-op, with full crossplay between different platforms too, so console owners can hop on the tender with your PC colleagues.
Players will also get to drive authentic fire trucks and use a wide range of realistic firefighting equipment, from hoses and extinguishers to tools designed for search, rescue, and entry. Every piece of equipment has its purpose, and every mission demands the right response at the right moment. You’ll have to approach missions just like a real emergency, and when you’re playing in co-op you cna split the tasks between you, just as a real team of firefighters would.
