Ahead of a full reveal for EA Sports FC 27, EA has revealed that Kylian Mbappe will be returning as the cover star for this game – technically the first time after EA dropped FIFA’s license, though. The cover art also features a lot of revealing teasers and easter eggs for new features and collaborations. Social spaces? Ted Lasso? Alex Hunter? It’s all here.

AFC Richmond, the fictional team from the series Ted Lasso will feature in FC 27, with the upcoming Season 4 of the show set to see Ted Lasso now coaching the women’s team. The “Believe” sign that is a feature of the previous seasons’ dressing rooms is seen in the promo art. Ted Lasso was previously featured in FIFA 23, the final game before EA swapped to the EA Sports FC brand.
Beyond that, the easter eggs (and their descriptions sent out in a press release) reveal that a social space will feature within FC 27. The Grounds is where you’ll be able to go, entering on the Terrace to meet up with friends and get playing. There’s various features and minigames to be found here, such as Drop Kick Targets, a Balloon Ball mode, and Alex Hunter will be there to help you “up your game” if you find him on the streets.
This all smacks of the social spaces that are the lynchpin of 2K NBA, though we really have to hope that EA isn’t indulging too heavily in the excessive monetisation of that series.
Another interesting new feature is the introduction of Dynamic OVR, which will model how player performances can change in real football. “Player ratings now can change based on form, morale, fitness, and injuries, as well as tactical fit, role, and environment in real-time. These ratings will directly influence player value, transfers, and scouting decisions.”
Anyway, Mbappe, who just picked up the Golden Boot at the World Cup said, “To be featured on the cover of an EA SPORTS FC title for the first time is a very special moment for me. It’s an honor to continue my long-term relationship with the franchise in its latest chapter, alongside the players who have shaped its history. I can’t wait for everyone to experience FC 27.”
Definitely sounds like something he would say.
