Insomniac Games has dropped a nice update for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, adding a pair of new suits inspired – perhaps ‘inspidered’? – by the latest appearances of Spidey in the cinema and video games. And behind the scenes, there’s improved support for the PS5 Pro as well.
Starting with the technical stuff, Spider-Man 2 on PS5 Pro now supports both Enhanced PSSR, to leverage the latest version of the ML upscaling tech, and also for Power Saver mode for all PS5 consoles, to help trim a few Watts off your energy consumption. Both are great improvements.
And then for the suits, you have the following:
- Fresh Start – inspired by Spider-Man: Brand New Day
- Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls – inspired by Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls
Both are exclusive to the Peter Parker character in the game. The former will definitely feel familiar when compared to some of the previous MCU suits, while the Marvel Tōkon one is a neat anime styled number that ties in with the soon-to-be-released fighting game.
It’s nice to see Insomniac continuing to revisit their previous games with little tidbits of support like this – and heck, the amount of love shows to the first two Spider-Man games through the PS5 launch, PS5 Pro and beyond was nothing short of incredible. Of course, these are some of the biggest and best-selling games on PlayStation over the last few generations, so it should be no surprise.
Spider-Man 2 is a fantastic sequel to the PS4 smash hit, building on everything that the original did and making great use of the PlayStation 5 hardware. It proved to be popular with PS5 owners too, selling 2.5 million copies within the first 24 hours. Bringing it to PC was inevitable, given Sony’s broader strategy, and it’s sure to be pretty popular there as well (though there will now also be an inevitable PSN requirement and public griping about this).
In our Spider-Man 2 review, Dom said, “Spider-Man 2 is a fantastic sequel, building on the excellent foundations of its forebear while delivering a story that drives these beloved characters forward.”
Next up, though, is something quite different with Marvel’s Wolverine due out in September, a more linear adventure that features the Canadian amnesiac on a grizzled and bloody trek to rediscover his past.
