Earlier this month, it was rumoured that Guardians of the Galaxy star, Dave Bautista, would be replacing Ryan Hurst on Amazon’s God of War television series.

Variety are now reporting that the deal is done and Dave will indeed be our new Kratos!

Hurst, who had trained heavily to transform his body for the role, tore his bicep when performing a stunt for the show. He has had surgery, but the recovery time, which could be up to six months, was considered too long, and it is reported he would be unlikely to be able to start filming until next year.

“According to sources, while Hurst’s full recovery is a priority, the period required for it was longer than the production shooting schedule could accommodate, leading to the difficult decision to recast the role,” reported Deadline.

Scenes from the first few episodes had already been recorded, and these will have to be reshot with Bautista, with the show already commissioned for two seasons.

Callum Vinson is playing Atreus, with Andy Patinkin as Odin, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, Max Parker as Heimdall, Jeff Gulka as Sindri, Ed Skrein as Baldur, Teresa Palmer as Sif, Danny Woodburn as Brok, and Alastair Duncan as Mimir,  the talking head who Kratos carries around on his belt.

The next God of War title,  God of War Laufey is set to release in 2027, in which Faye, aka Laufey the Just (portrayed once more by Deborah Ann Woll), wakes up in a different realm entirely, the Everywhen, which is an afterlife to gods of all religions.

Kratos will then be back for the next game, but will he be voiced by Christopher Judge, or Dave Bautista?
