CD Projekt Red had a big surprise to finish off Gamescom Opening Night Live, with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered set to drop on 29th September 2026.
Not only this, but this remaster update will be free. And they’re making the first two expansions to the game – Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine – free for all owners of the game as well. A lovely touch.
Even after the game was upgraded for the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, CDPR are planning to take things further once more, bringing an array of improvements including:
- Upgraded visuals
- Enhanced combat
- improved traveersal and movement
- New Witcher signs FX
- Improved mount handling
- Enhanced monster behaviours
- Skill tree revamp
- Transmogrification
- Enhanced Photo Mode
And so much more.
This is seriously impressive for such an old game, and for CDPR to make it free, and it’s all building up and relaying the foundations for what’s to come in the form of The Witcher 3’s third expansion, Songs of the Past, set for release in 2027.
That expansion will be the focus for CDPR at Gamescom this year, with The Witcher 4 expected to launch in 2028.
