CD Projekt Red and Fool’s Theory has released a supercut trailer of the behind closed doors gameplay demo for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past. Check it out:
The trailer starts with Geralt exploring Letten after the fertility and harvest festival of the night before, making his way through to the Lettenhove estate where Dandelion grew up. Cutting ahead to the A Bed of Thorns quest line as Geralt and Dandelion’s cousin Lilla explore a nest of darkness within the idyllic region, there’s snippets of how combat has been improved and refined, the reveal of the Swarmion enemy and Geralt’s new hook weapon.
This is a heavily trimmed down 13 minutes, compared to the roughly 45 minutes demo that we saw at Gamescom just a few days ago, where we saw much more of the story revealed in cutscenes to explain how Dandelion’s family is a little bit cursed and why he might be missing. There was also more from the quest, where we saw a concluding boss fight and a cliffhanger to tease us at the end.
In other word, you should go read my preview from yesterday! I conclude that “It’s an expansion that is full of potential, and with the free remaster and upgrade to the complete edition preceding it, a fantastic way to bring players back into this world before the new trilogy begins in The Witcher 4.”
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past is expected to release in 2027, but there’s good reason to play The Witcher 3 before then. On 29th September, The Witcher 3 remastered will be released, enhancing the game once more with improved lighting, revamped combat mechanics, a new skill tree system, and countless other tweaks and changes. It’s a free upgrade for the game, and it will see all copies upgraded to the Complete Edition, folding in the Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine expansions for all players.
