Square Enix has announced that Final Fantasy VII Revelation will launch on 8th April 2027, this concluding chapter in the trilogy set to arrive for all platforms at the same time – PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2 and PC.

The State of Play stream was also party to a big gameplay reveal for the biggest game in the series.

The gameplay reveal showed a deep look into how the combat gameplay has evolved, with character roles enhancing the synergies you could already find in Rebirth. There’s also now Chocobo-back battling.

That was just a prelude to beaming back up to the Highwind and flying across the full open world that is now available to you. You can revisit areas from previous games, as well as visit new locations Wutai and Rocket Town. Yuffie has access to a grappling gun to zip up to rooftops and get new vantage points.

The story will naturally unfold with a main path to follow, as tensions rise between Wutai and Shinra and Cloud and friends move towards the conclusion of the game and the remake’s timeline-y shenanigans. For the side stories though, which can draw upon and continue the stories of characters from previous games, such as Cissnei, you can choose a little of how they unfold by putting different characters into the driving seat for dialogue.

Lovers of Queen’s Blood will also be keen to dive back into this popular strategy minigame. In Revelation, Red XIII can become embroiled in a Queen’s Blood saga just for him, facing off against characters that have special game-altering abilities.

Pre-orders are now live, with a special trilogy edition available for those that want to start from scratch. So let’s look back on the series.

In our 10/10 review for Final Fantasy VII Remake, Tuffcub said, ” How do you remake one of the most beloved video games ever made? Why would you even risk it? It would be like remaking Jaws, Casablanca, or the original Star Wars film. Final Fantasy VII was a sprawling saga spanning eighty hours of memorable characters, lengthy battles, and tearful heartbreak. There is no way Square Enix could do it justice… and yet they have. An utter joy to play from start to finish, packed with memorable scenes, moustache-twirling baddies, and epic battles. The first part of Final Fantasy VII Remake isn’t just polished, it’s opulent.”

Our review for the next instalment, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, was equally well received, scoring 9/10 in 2024. “Really the biggest problem you’ll have once the credits roll is knowing that it will be far too many years before we can finish the trilogy,” noted Nic.
