Today we’ve released a whole batch of classic NES titles, from the rather splendid Mario Bros to the sublime Legend of Zelda, and assuming you did what we asked and connected to the eShop before August-the-whatever-it-was, those games are now yours, for free.
You’ll have to dig them out though, we’ve hidden them. Go into the eShop, scroll left until you get to Settings, then scroll down to the bit that lets you view your downloaded games.
They’ll be there, at the bottom, individually. And yes, you’ll need to go back out to the eShop main menu and back in again after each one. But – hey – they’re free.
The games are: Super Mario Bros.,Donkey Kong Jr., Balloon Fight, Ice Climber, The Legend of Zelda, Metroid, Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, NES Open Tournament Golf, Mario & Yoshi and Wrecking Crew.
The best thing? They’re not the shitty, slow-motion 50hz games we’ve tried to fob you off with in the past. These are super fast, super slick 60hz versions, running at full resolution and full speed. Metroid’s never looked, or played, so good.
So. Yeah. Go get them. Now.
Yours,
Ninty.

I love how tedious they make it. Most of the game’s aren’t even worth playing after the initial “oh, cool. It actually works”.
nofi
Hey, this is the first time we’ve had Mario at full speed!
Delriach
>_<
nofi
exactly. this is heavenly.
Delriach
I guess I’ve been spoiled ;P

I’m looking at this positively – they make me feel my console is worth slightly more than it is, AND i get some pretty icons to adorn my home screen.

What a faff. Still, some decent games in the pile.

I guess they couldn’t find a way to show them as free in the main menu so put the games as titles we’ve already downloaded. Interestingly they have also given me 3d classic excitebikes which is a surprise and bonus
nofi
that’s always been free mate.
baggyg
It has? damn must have missed that! Bonus for me anyway :)
Crocadillian
Thats some good sarcasm B)
As you say though, and ill have to agree, free games! I can never normally tolerate playing more than 5 minutes of a game console with a poorer specification than the Sega Mega Drive, but its something to add to my empty home menu, and it gives me some incentive to try now.
FOOTYDUDE94
il get downloading them in a bit then
TSBonyman
That was a fun read and it’s nice to see some happy faces in the 3DS camp :)
Belazor
For the record, you can redownload them via the Settings / Other -> Titles You’ve Bought area, no need to get them individually :)
TheDeathAvenger
But there’s no ‘download all’ option (that I can see).
Not that it took long to download them individually, they’re only thirty-odd blocks each.

This is cool, shouldn’t be needed though, it really shouldn’t happen..
