Nintendo President Satoru Iwata has announced a host of welcome new additions to the e-Shop service for the 3DS.
The updated e-Shop will enable users to download demos of full games to their 3DS and to perform software downloads whilst the console remains in sleep mode.
Perhaps the most significant aspect of this announcement is the introduction of ‘add-on content’, a first for Nintendo consoles. Iwata remained tight-lipped about the specifics of what sort of content this would include, but hopefully it’ll end up encompassing downloadable new levels, characters etc. for games on the platform.
Additionally, Nintendo outlined plans to bring the e-Shop to other web platforms meaning that you will be able to eventually purchase content from the store on your computer or mobile.
Nintendo released no firm time schedule on when these updates might be landing, but Iwata said:
“Although this next feature [software download in sleep mode] is not going to be available with the next system update, we are now preparing for the Nintendo eShop to be available on the Web so that you can access it via PCs or smartphones too.”
Just need to fix the awful 3DS e-Shop interface and the store will be perfect, right Nintendo?
