A double XP weekend for Battlefield 3 starts at 8am on Saturday – assuming you can find a server to play on.
The extra XP will be available on all modes and all maps but will be shown at the end of the match as ‘Additional points’ rather than your XP count being doubled.
The bonus event will run until 8am on Monday morning.

I’ve defended BF3 to the hilt in the past but the removal of official servers and recent experiences with the game (kicked by abusive admins etc) have put me off it. Last EA game I’ll have paid for a while (no empty words here, I honestly mean it).

There’s loads of DICE servers, official ie the ones called Server XXXX where XXXX is a number and custom servers run by DICE employees.
All you have to do is search “DICE”.

They’re not official DICE servers, I promise you. I found a couple in my mentioned search, and they’ve got rules changed and everything. They just happen to have DICE in the name of the server, probably to try and attract more people or something.

There have been a few words via twitter and such which says they’ll reserve more servers for default settings but how many that will actually be and when is yet to be seen.

ignoring abusive admin, the change to custom servers should be a good thing since it’ll allow you to find a server with settings more to your liking and the removal of overpowered weapon’s, faster vehicle respawns etc…
i can see why you might be annoyed if you bought the game new/paid for an online pass but battlefield 3’s dedicated servers will of cost more the a lifetime of p2p’s.

I disagree dude, sometimes people want to play a match where an admin can’t change it to their liking (which happens ALL the time), or to play maps with stock settings and no ‘you can’t use this gun or this gun etc’. In fact, I’ve wanted to play like that for a while now and I can’t due to the complete disappearance of the official servers. I don’t want to spend 20-30 mins finding a half decent server, I just want to jump into a game and play.
Dude, the online pass is here to pay for servers and it’s only been frigging 6 months anyway! Bad Company 2’s are still online and it’s been 2 years or so. This is nothing but outright penny pinching from EA, and they shouldn’t be allowed to get away with it.

There’s plenty of vanilla servers from what I’ve seen. And there’s a favorite option for when you do find one you like. Also I find those types of servers to be full of people using the m26 mass glitch so the game would be almost unplayable for me if there wasn’t the option to ban it.

I agree about the online pass but what I’m saying is its no worse then any publisher that has one as well as p2p servers.

Most of the servers I’ve seen have been 300-500% tickets, which take way too long to complete.

There are plenty of servers out there with default tickets. You just need to know where to look. And many of them don’t have 500% tickets or whatever, but have certain rules like not blowing up jets before they take off and stuff which generally makes it a better game. I prefer custom servers so much more than having P2P with constant delay.

don’t get me started on this. I created a thread on the official forums and people aren’t happy. They give with one hand and take with the other. Its not right the official servers should go, I tried playing on other servers but the admins are terrible.

I searched through 91 pages of servers earlier (max amount without specifying particular maps etc) and I didn’t find a single official server. That’s 91×20 or so per page. Total bullshit.

there’s supposedly 1000 official servers left on PS3. that’s down from around 20,000 at the games realese.

Well, I didn’t search through a list of every server (as it can’t be done, there’s a limit to the amount of pages of servers you can bring up at once), but me, plus a friend on his PS3 at his house last night (talking over skype) both did searches and we couldn’t find a single server. Either the servers are hidden away somewhere or EA are lying and they don’t exist. I’m really not sure which one is true, but I’m leaning towards the latter.

Thats probably made up of all the empty ones too. If there run by dice there’ll need 8 players for the game to start.

Once you set the server listing to your region and filter out servers with weird settings, you only get a few pages. But honestly, that’s enough for me, it’s actually kind of nice to be able to return to the same servers, since you start seeing familiar players.

just focus on getting the 10,000 point medals if you want to rank up fast. the later guns and unlocks aren’t any better though, they just give you more options.

Agreed, besides the shotguns on certain maps, the weapons are well balanced and there’s no outright ‘best’ weapon or anything. Personally I prefer to use the G36C (Engineer, with laser sight, holo sight, foregrip) or the L85A2 (Assault, Holo sight, suppressor, foregrip). Both great guns which suit my playstyle: sneaky sneaky.

I will not be buying anymore EA games, which is a shame cos they have some great titles. If more companies start acting like EA also I may have to kick gaming as a hobby into touch altogether. :(

All the offical servers have borring named that dont stick out, something like “SERVER3347” and there are not many of those left now, i found one last week after 2 of us searched for a good 10 mins looking for an occial EA one.
