Rockstar yesterday announced the grand opening of its “Cheater Pool” across Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. Previously outlined in an earlier post, this latest update allows the Max Payne 3 team to manipulate matchmaking parameters for anyone caught cheating/hacking the online multiplayer.
Whether caught by Rockstar themselves, or grassed-on by fellow players, cheaters are tagged and then thrown into an arena with their own kind. It sounds like a great system for two reasons; not only does it keep regular players happy, but the Cheater Pool could be an insane playground for those who experiment with hacks/cheats.

What a great idea.
However if they have that ability to organise matching in this way, then why can’t they match other games better? I am not the best at this but I cannot level to compete as I am against people 30 to 40 levels ahead of me and I get wiped out time and time again.
So frustrating to have a great multiplayer ruined.

To be honest, anyone caught cheating or hacking should not be able to play the game online at all. This doesn’t necessarily tackle the problem in my opinion, especially if people know they can still play even after hacking. Also, some might resort to cheating to get into this “exclusive” lobby. Nice idea in principle.

But theyve bought the game. So they still have a right to use the product they’ve purchased. This allows them to continue playing, but against other cheating bastards.

Yes, but you agree to certain terms etc by playing online, so Sony/RockStar can revoke those rights from cheaters/hackers.

Sorry, my point being that it’s tough – I don’t see why any cheaters/hackers should have a “backup” option. To combat cheaters you should just ban them – doubt they would do it again.

I can’t say that i have experienced many hackers on this tbh – Mind you, you have to actually get into a game for that i suppose.

It’s a good idea. Contaminate the problem, but don’t kill it. If you think about it, people that do these cheats and glitches are the ones that find the cheats and glitches. If they are allowed to continue playing, they find more glitches and cheats which helps Rockstar identify and fix the problems without it affecting fair gamers. Good system. I love MP3 but nobody plays it on the PS3 and if they do, they are miles ahead of me (i’m level 13) so it’s not particularly fair. You have to get over it and just enjoy it I guess, it a brilliant game both online and offline from where i’m standing.

Great to see cheaters getting what they deserve, yet not too harsh as they are only taking advantage of gaps the developers and Sony / MS should have closed.
Yet to encounter any and jumped ship to the 360 version after just 2 weeks with PS3 copy for various reasons, but never encountered connection issues on PS3 (that were enough to annoy anyway)

EA got a way of dealing with these gamers on Battlefield 3, get caught cheating in any way, your stats get wiped, best way to do it in my opinion.
