Phil Spencer To Host Microsoft Gamescom Conference

Phil Spencer will give the opening keynote talk at Gamescom later this month and is expected to focus on the best ways to improve the value of your property in Sim City.

Kirsty Allsop will join him on stage to demonstrate how to transform two egg boxes and a toilet roll in to a space saving storage unit for peripherals.

Sadly that is only happening in my fevered imagination, in the rather more boring place called reality it’s Microsoft Studios boss Phil Spencer who will be giving the talk and he will, unsurprisingly, focus next generation opportunities.

“The industry is at a turning point,” said Phil via statement issued by Koelnmesse. “Gamescom is the ideal platform to discuss the impact of new hardware, accessories and software for the next generation of games.”

“There has never been a better time to be a part of this industry. It is exciting to see how developers and authors to use the new opportunities and create a completely new way of playing.”

  1. I see what you did there.

    • Well that looks like a natural pose.

    • Multiple light sources as well.

  2. Oh dear, They could at least have used Phil Harrison as he’s the Xbox Europe guy, I will always remember Spencer for this years E3 conference…

On the other hand, maybe this is a sign that Microsoft are taking Gamescom serioulsy, and even on par with E3 this year. Hopefully there will actually be game footage running on real X1 hardware, that will reassure us that its not underpowered (or confirm that it is….)

  3. How many different t-shirts will he manage to wear during his keynote? Place your bets people!

    • Oh he’s the T-Shirt guy? Now I’m kind of glad that I won’t be able to watch the conferences…

    • You also need to have a sweepstake on how many watches he’ll be wearing.

  4. I bet the guy’s on a strict directive not to mention TV once.

  5. he knows what Europe is then?

    a few pointers Phil.
Europe is not a country, not a little island off the us coast, and hardly anybody watches the NFL, NBA or NHL.

and football is the game where the players aren’t usually allowed to handle the ball, they kick the ball with their foot, hence foot-ball.

say the word soccer once, and you’ll get run out of the continent. ^_^

  6. Isn’t he the smug repulsive bloke?

    • you’re going to have to be a bit more specific than that. ^_^

  7. Who is Phil Spencer?
    Who are Microsoft?
    What is the Xbox One?

  8. Phil Spencer is the used car salesman with the two watches isn’t he?

  9. I’m sure he will do a great job. I mean what’s the worse that could happen at one of these gigs? It’s not like you can put the public off your new shiney box with just a simple little press conference!

  10. http://n4g.com/news/1331965/microsoft-wont-live-stream-gamescom-media-briefing

apparently, they won’t be streaming it.

While there will be a brief stage presentation, Spencer said, “Most of the time will be spent with the press getting time with the developers and their games. You should think about this as a room with a lot of hands-on.”

“The nice thing about the way the showcase is shaping up is people at home will have access to it. Streaming is probably not the way to do it because it will be like watching a party that you’re not at,” Spencer said, adding, “So what we’re going to do is, throughout the day, we’re going to take video snippets from the floor and release them on the Xbox Wire.”

why do they let this guy talk to people?

they’ll have access to it, by not having access to it?
what bloody planet is this guy on?

    • In other words, they are buying the media and games industry with a lavish setup with lots of freebies in exchange for writing nice things.

This is how Microsoft usually fix their problems.

“About that red ring problem, you didn’t want to cover it in much detail did you?” “Now about our advertising budget with your blog…”
