Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida has confirmed that the DualShock 4 controller will be compatible with Windows. This revelation came after he replied to a question by a follower on Twitter who asked whether the controller would receive drivers to make it PC compatible.
@Napo2k the analog sticks and buttons will work just fine

This exchange was followed by Yoshida clarifying that the DS4 will only handle basic functions, so the use of the touchpad and Share button will probably not be available. However, with the announcement of the Steam controller it could be a possibility that the DS4’s touchpad will eventually find some use as developers begin to incorporate touch controls in their games.

Good to know.

If it works well then it could topple the 360 controller’s almost monopoly on pc gamepads. Especially if the things that made the DS3 (and hopefully DS4) so great are all present and correct, like the standard micro usb port instead of a proprietary one.

wow, that could mean some more sales just for PC. Sony have their head screwed on this gen.

If we could avoid using the likes of MotionInJoy (which many of us use for our PS3 controllers when playing on the PC) that’d be lovely. If not, I can stomach the software some more. After all, it means I get to use the DS4 controller on the PC with games I buy from Steam.

Motioninjoy is an arse and for those of us to try to delete it to install XBox controller drivers it escalates from arse to nightmare! DS4 compatibility is great news, I think ill get one :)

Yeah. I thought about using my PS3 controller on the PC again and then remembered how much shit I had to go through just to get my 360 PC dongle to work with the PC.
Basic PS4 controller compatibility is absolutely amazing. I might even switch to the PC version of FFXIV ARR until the PS4 version comes out if I can play it with the PS4 controller.
Hopefully eager devs will write custom drivers to emulate the mouse through the touchpad. Wireless connectivity would also be great.
The share button should work as a basic button right out of the box. It simply has to be mapped to something if the game allows custom button mappings.

I hate the 360 pad layout, so I understand why people want to use a PS pad on their PC, but games tend to be written for the 360 pad and that is baked into ‘Doze as well. The DS4 pad support will only be good news if it emulates a 360 pad, the same as my F710 does….

Meant to say, if it *can* emulate the 360 pad as an option, clearly the advanced features would be better still if games started supporting them.

You get the feeling Sony have learnt a lot from the PS3 release and development process. I really hope the PS4 is as dominant as I think it will be.

Its a good move, I like the Dualshock layout more than the Xbox pad and tbh I’m more of a playstation fan anyway :)
