DrinkBox Studios, makers of Guacamelee!, has revealed the first bit of information about new project Severed, which is essentially an open world combat and exploratory title. The game will be heavily focused on touch controls so it would be the perfect fit for the Vita, though no platforms have yet been officially confirmed, and neither has a release date though 2015 is the current window.  Speaking to Destructoid Greg Lesky, the lead designer, talked about the open world nature.
“The high-level structure is kind of like a Mega Man structure I would say. You can go down one path, or you can try going down one path and if it’s not really working you can go down a different path and try that path, get the new piece of armor or whatever it is from that path, and then try that first path again as you’ll be more upgraded.”
The story follows a warrior who wakes up missing an arm so she goes on a violent quest to find out why, during which she fights enemies using physical and magic attacks. There will be boss fights, which the trailer shows, and when one is defeated you can wear a piece of them to gain more power, so a little bit morbid. The art style seems similar to that of Guacamelee! which I liked, but we’ll have to wait a while before really knowing how good Severed will be.

I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on this (after the awesome Guacamelee!) but the fact that the game will be “heavily focused on touch controls” puts me off slightly.

Yeah, my interested dropped pretty much completely when I read that. I’ll see how it turns out I suppose.

Man, that art style is just lovely. its what kept me going with Guacamelee! when it was just beating me to shreds.
