Out This Week: Toren, Not A Hero, & Code Name: S.T.E.A.M

Despite the occasional ray of sunshine tearing its way through the clouds, there are still plenty of reasons to stay home, put your feet up, and whack on your gaming system of choice. With no big releases occupying the regular Tuesday spot, we move directly into this week’s PlayStation Network line-up. There’s plenty on show this time around with highlights including handheld strategy title Breach & Clear, the enchanting Toren, and a standalone release of The Last of Us: Left Behind.

Shifting towards the end of the week we have Not A Hero from our friends at Roll7, followed by our biggest launch, Code Name: S.T.E.A.M. Rounding things up nicely we have Final Fantasy X and X-2 making their way to PlayStation 4 along with two other remastered classics, Baldur’s Gate 2 and Icewind Dale.

Although there are plenty of games coming to PlayStation Network this week, Toren is one of the few that really stand out. Developed by Brazilian developer, Swordtales, it slips under the same umbrella as other puzzler adventure games such as Papo & Yo, Rain, and even Journey. Despite its lovely art and setting there’s a real minimalist vibe that will hopefully translate well in terms of gameplay.

In other news, The Last of Us: Left Behind will finally see a standalone release on PS4 and PS3. Set before and during the events of the main game, players get to navigate Ellie through one of the darkest chapters of her past. It’s a great lump of DLC and one that can be upgraded via a number of packages available on the PlayStation Store.

Finally, we have Code Name: S.T.E.A.M. Along with the marvellous Monster Hunter 4U and Xenoblade Chronicles 3D, it has drummed up plenty of anticipation for this year’s 3DS lineup. Developed by legendary outfit, Intelligent Systems, S.T.E.A.M. is a different approach to the turn-based strategy genre, forgoing fantasy armies for a distinct steam-punk vibe. It may not stand up next to Fire Emblem: Awakening but it’s certainly worth keeping an eye on, having bagged a solid 7/10 in our review last week.

  1. Double Dragon?!!

  2. Toren looks interesting. Should be reasonably priced if developers posts are accurate. Priced the same as Steam apparently. Early reviews have been quite positive. Color Guardians looks like it could be a bit of fun.
