Psyonix, developer of the insanely good Rocket League, has teased fans with a first look at one of the game’s free downloadable maps.
Dubbed the “Utopia Coliseum”, this rendition of Rocket League’s default pitch sports some lovely brickwork and shrubbery, no doubt inspired by Roman archeology. According to Psyonix, the new map will be completely free to all users “in a few weeks”.
Alongside this welcome slab of content, we’ll be seeing some new features coming to Rocket League. Speaking to IGN, Psyonix’s Jeremy Dunham and Thomas Silloway confirmed that a spectator mode will roll out soon, as will the option to play ranked 3v3 matches while grouped with friends.
Finally, the developers mentioned that new cosmetic items are on their way. However, unlike some planned content, these will be paid for add-ons.

Even if it’s free, they might want to concentrate on more important things, like fixing all the bugs first.
The servers technically work now, at least, but they’re a bit dodgy still. Cars teleporting all over the place. Which would be a neat feature, if it really was a feature.
It’s still plagued by Noisy Fan Syndrome as well.
And some of the trophies are impossible to get. The one for playing with a friend doesn’t pop up, and the driving a silly distance one probably doesn’t either, since it’s not tracking the distance. Although it might have been earlier on. Since the servers started working, the wheels (which are supposed to track the distance you’ve driven) seem to have become stuck.
I guess “it was free” is the reason people are excusing all sorts of issues? If only they’d waited a month or two, they might have finished it in time. It’s a fun game, when it behaves, but it’s just too buggy.

It must be referred to as NFS though. And pronounced as such. Which is a challenge not to be undertaken with a mouthful of anything.

No, no, no! It simply cannot be referred to as ‘NFS’ as that’s already taken by Need For Speed & has been for years. If you go around complaining about your NFS, it’s likely just to be met with people asking which game/title you are talking about (& more than likely suspecting you would be talking about The Run).
However, if it were to be ‘UNFS’ (Unexplained Noisy Fan Syndrome), then that would be much better. Plus it adds the fact that it is totally unexplained as the game shouldn’t be pushing the console to sound like it’s about to depart to Tenerife.

Did you purposefully make an account to slate YD? Been a lurker for a while and then this made your blood boil? The thing about games these days is that they very generally vary from person to person. Give someone the internet to voice their opinion and suddenly they are a pariah-preacher.
YD does raise some valid points. The physics are not always consistent as I will attempt to hit the ball at times and go straight through :’). The servers are a bit laggy and when you join a game late you can teleport into a random bit of the arena.
Its good that you have not had problems with the game. Not everyone will have the same experience as yourself. So be a bit more appreciative of other people yeah?

A troll account created just to reply to me? I feel all special now. Except I think we can guess who it really is.
The problems with the servers and a couple of the trophies are real though. Even if they don’t affect everyone all the time. I’ve since discovered the distance one might not be obtainable online. It’s only tracking the distance in offline matches against bots. Which explains why it’s got stuck since the servers started mostly working and I’ve only been playing it online.
And I’m glad my moans are now part of the TSA furniture. I will happily take the piss out of something that deserves it. Usually in a sarcastic manner. And frequently in far too many words. Stupid fast typing skills.
But I’ll often say good things about games too. Or provide entertaining tales of the invention of hovercraft, which may or may not be true. And money saving DIY tips.
So piss off, trolls. :P

And Mr wonkey-willy? You can’t refer to Noisy Fan Syndrome as Nfs. It must be NFS, all upper-case.
The usual capitalisation for these things depends on if you’ll pronounce each letter individually or not. If you do (such as BBC), it’s all upper-case. If you don’t (for some reason, Nasa is always the example) it’s just the first letter capitalised.
You can only refer to it as Nfs if you can pronounce it. And not sound stupid while doing so.
I’ll also accept “stupid auto-correct did it”. Seems a common problem these days.

Looks pretty. I didn’t play much of Supersonic blah blah blah but I have started to wonder whether some differently shaped and beobstacled maps might be good for the game in its new form. Also, good move with the paid for cosmetics after giving us the game as a Plus freebie Psyonix! You’ve pitched that spectacularly and I’ll certainly chip in for a hat or two.

It’s been said many times but we want funny shaped maps! That would change the gameplay a bit.
Another idea is to have a game mode like Seasons on Fifa. Then it would put you against people in your own division and place more importance on winning.

I am personally ok if they don’t change the shapes of the maps, but at least give us an option to add lumps & bumps & stuff onto the maps for a bit of unpredictable gameplay/variety.
Although, I would go for some different maps that are different shapes too…
