Midgar Studio and publisher Nacon have announced that a demo for Edge of Memories is coming to Steam on 15th June, with the French-made JRPG set to launch for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC later this year.

The demo will preview the game’s opening, offering around two hours of content form the game’s first chapter, featuring the Estfalian Coast region and a boss encounter.

It will pick up as protagonist Eline wakes up on the Estfalian Coast and meets the mysterious Ysoris. Accompanying Ysoris to the nearest town, they’re forced to team up and fight monsters come from the Corrosion to rescue local hunters. Being right at the start of the game, Eline’s still learning her first combos, Ysoris’ abilities are just emerging for you, and you’ve got an enemy weakness system to master.

The climactic battle of the demo will reveal Eline’s hidden power, her ability to transform into the Black Beast. This form lets her deal massive damage and perform enemy executions… but at what cost to Eline? She always comes to afterwards with no memories of what just happened.

Edge of Memories is a successor to Midgar’s previous game Edge of Eternity. Where that game was a turn-based JRPG-inspired journey, Edge of Memories adopts a more vibrantly colourful art direction and real-time battles.

“Edge of Eternity is definitely a welcome addition to the JRPG pantheon,” Steve said in our review of Edge of Eternity, “and while it clearly doesn’t have the budget of the genre giants, it is full of heart and character. I certainly enjoyed my time exploring Heryon, despite a few niggles and a crafting system that adds little. If you go into this with an open mind and have an affection for the genre, then you’ll find much to like.”
