PlayStation VR Will Have A “Good Suite” Of Games At Launch

PlayStation Magic Lab Director, Richard Marks, spoke to Tom’s Hardware about PlayStation VR and has said that it should launch with a broad range of titles.

“We’re really focused on games, so at the launch we’ll have a good suite of games,” he said. “So we have some puzzle games, we have like an action game like [London Heist], we’ll probably have some form of a racing kind of title. I mean, we like to have a good breadth for a platform so that something will appeal to everybody. And I think we really do feel like interactivity is a key element of entertaining VR gaming.”

I’ve had a hunt round and made a list of all the games that have been mentioned to support PSVR although some of these may never see the light of day and some are just tech demos that may not reach a full game.

Driveclub was meant to have PSVR support but it was dropped with Yoshida telling press it was “kind of difficult and sickening”. However, Sony have set up a new studio in the north of England who are working on top secret projects so maybe we will get Wipeout instead.

Oh and No Man’s Sky, right?

  1. I’m curious as to how many times the industry will try to get us to adopt VR and turn it into something mainstream. What’s this… the third…fourth big push over the passed god-knows-how-many years? They really don’t seem to understand.

Still, best of luck to them. :-)

    • It’s funny how the industry has gone from wanting gaming to be a living room family oriented experience back to a solitary experience. Unless you count the people laughing at the fool swinging their arms about with the VR set strapped to their head.

      • The industry just wants to sell things. Especially the hardware makers. They want it all so they want us to want it all. VR will have to fundamentally change, I swear, to receive mainstream acceptance.

      • The industry actually wants to put plugs in our heads, hook us up to the Matrix and turn us into Durex.

      • Duracell! I meant Duracell!!

      • Ha ha, best autocorrect ever!

  2. Plenty of potential in that list although if i’m going to buy into VR it’ll be for the first-person games.

  3. I took part in a market research thingy for playstation VR yesterday.
Was really impressed, was a mech style FPS, really did feel completely immersed.
I would be tempted to pick it up, just depends on price, but also Sony’s past track record on anything other than their main consoles hasn’t been great in terms of support a year or so down the line so not 100%

  4. I’m mostly looking forward to P Cars in VR, then GT7.………IT WILL SUPPORT PSVR MR SONY………, then a good space game like Eve Valkyrie. Shame No Man’s Sky isn’t on the list.

  5. Wipeout in VR would be fantastic; they could reuse assets from Wipeout HD and bump the framerate to 120fps, go on Sony, you know it makes sense!

One of the big differentiators between PSVR and the other headsets is the ‘social screen’ and asymmetric multiplayer: things like the Playroom VR monster mode where the headset wearer is Godzilla and up to four other players are trying to escape, and the bomb defusing Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes could stop PSVR from being a solitary activity and open up some genuinely new multiplayer possibilities.

  6. I never say never, but I would most certainly need a thorough go of a few games before making my mind up. Hoping that stores set up some test units. It’s going to be a tough job to push vr, in my opinion.

I am genuinely excited and hopeful though.

  7. It’s a shame that Llamasoft’s (Jeff Minter) TxK (PS Vita) was an upcoming PS4 / Playstation VR game, but the set of IP lawyers now known as Atari had to go screw that up for everyone. Strange considering that Battlezone is one of the upcoming VR games… I hope Atari just properly licensed it for a future release but it sounds like they didn’t have any talks and just demanded that the game be eradicated.

Hopefully Minter has -something- up his sleeve for VR, I can only imagine what that would be like.
