Community Chronicle: 15/05/16

After last night’s surprise Eurovision win – nice new scoring system, by the way – today’s shock Formula One victory, and the revelation that we’d get more than two and a half days of clement weather this year, I think I need a bit of a lie down…

At least videogames are fairly nice and predictable at the moment.

Chronicle-hottopics-sticker

I mean, what could be more predictable than EA and Disney’s partnership turning into a steady stream of Star Wars games? After the huge success of Star Wars Battlefront, there’s a sequel to DICE’s multiplayer shooter on the way for next year.

“Is it a sequel or the other half of the first game?” JR. snarkily responded. However, ron_mcphatty countered and said that, “I understand that most thought Battlefront was a bit of a thin offering, but personally I thought there was plenty and only wanted to have offline bots for everything. Maybe Battlefront 2 will deliver? Great news either way, especially with the promise of Force Awakens content!”

Either way there’s still plenty of room for improvement. Amphlett said that “For me they need to build in more of the game mechanics from Battlefield, make a game which has more longevity, more appeal to the core gamer. I’m not overly fussed about the perceived lack of content, just the depth of gameplay.”

From games to films based on them, there was a new trailer for the Assassin’s Creed movie, which was terribly orange and cyan, and featured Kanye West’s music. That went down a treat!

“Well my hopes of a good movie game tie in have died today,” kjkg wrote, while kennykazey said, “It all looks a bit ehhh… but I’ll probably give it a watch.”

MrYd added, “It really does look terrible from that trailer. Someone gave someone a list of things that are in AC games, a reasonable sized bag of money, and a button that makes everything turn orange and teal. Anything else that makes a good film is optional, and I bet they didn’t bother with those options.”

At the same time, some people liked a number of the variations from the game. “I really like what they’ve done with the Animus for the movie,” hazelam said. “It’s way more visually interesting than just having him lying down and twitching occasionally. The Matrix movies played that shtick out years ago.”

What did you think? Is it looking like a half decent effort at a movie made from a game? It’s always difficult when you get quite close to the source material to see past what that featured and the image you have in your own mind.

Chronicle-achievements-sticker

Of course, almost everyone has been playing Uncharted 4 this past week and almost all of those seem to be loving it, as well. However, there were a few hold outs in the comments on What We Played still plugging away at other games.

In terms of actual achievements, it’s rather light on the ground, as DividSmythe finished Lego Marvel’s Avengers on PS Vita and snagged the platinum to what sounds like it is an awful, awful game.

On the other end of the spectrum, both freezebug and Lyts1985 got the platinum for Ratchet & Clank, and there was a minor mix up when it came to reporting the record times for the game. Turns out that Lyts was just half a day quicker than freeze to cross that particular threshold.

The trophy leaderboards are on a hiatus at the moment, so after a rather brief Chronicle, all that’s left to do is bid you farewell for another week.

  1. I agree with hazelam about the Animus, hadn’t really thought of that before, and yes, it would be quite boring just to see Fasbender lying down.

Have we heard anything about this year’s game? Will it be a movie-tie in set in the same location, or something totally different?

    • There isn’t one this year. Although rumours of Rogue getting a PS4 version or a remoistened Ezio trilogy have been fairly quietly floating around.

      • Oh, I’d love an Ezio Trilogy, or just AC II remastered for that matter!

      • The remasterd trilogy would probably be filled with bugs, microtransactions and turned into Fardogscreed. :P

  2. Yup, congrats to Lyts for bagging the R&C fastest platinum half a day before I succeeded.
What an absolutely stellar remake of the first game in the series, thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish over several playthrough’s….just in time for the behemoth that is UC4 to pop through the letterbox ;)
