What We Played #266 No Man’s Sky, Tricky Towers & Worms WMD

If I was a betting man I could probably save you the trip down to the comments section by wagering that most of you lovely people have been playing a little title called No Man’s Sky. I had stayed strong – my pile of shame contains some of the last twelve month’s finest games – but as I watched my friends relentlessly posting incredible-looking videos on Facebook my willpower swiftly dwindled like so many British Olympic dreams. It arrives tomorrow, and frankly I can’t wait to dive into it over the weekend, like so many Olympic… well, you know what I mean.

Since this feature isn’t entitled What Will You Play I won’t dwell on that any further, but I will return to my pile of shame, which has slowly been diminishing in the last few weeks. I’ve been making a concerted effort to play The Crew, and after some mucking about with the handling I’m really enjoying Ubisoft’s open-world racer, which at this point is probably in its fully-finished state.

Alongside that I also managed to jump back into Titanfall in preparation for the sequel, and I really didn’t give it anywhere near enough of a chance the first time out, despite it being one of the games that made me buy an Xbox One. Finally I played Tricky Towers for review – which if you have Playstation Plus you can check out for free yourself – and found it to be a fun multiplayer game, and a mediocre single-player one.

Our illustrious leader Tef was back from his travels this week, and he’s been playing a hell of a lot of No Man’s Sky so he can grace us with a review at the start of next week. He’s also played the beautiful colour-based platformer Hue, and some other stuff he’s not allowed to talk about, which, as ever, is annoying and secret.

Tuffcub also returned from a faraway land, and that somehow helped him to play more games;

I used my jet lag constructively and I’ve finished God of War III Remastered, not because I wanted to, but just to see where the story ended up in preparation for Kratos’ starring role in Carry On Up The Vikings on PS4. I played a little of Tricky Towers and even less of that space game that game with PS+ this month, that appears to be a bit rubbish.

I also fired up Gone Home although I am stuck and have no idea what to do next. There was a smidgen of Destiny, a smidgen of Rocket League, and a dash of Resident Evil 5.

Our resident American writer Miguel has had a busy week of it, fitting in Heart&Slash for review, while continuing to play Gal*Gun, crying over loot boxes in Overwatch, getting back into Black Ops 3 and making a start on Earth Defence Force 4.1. He seemed particularly excited about that last one so hopefully he enjoys it!

Aran got to review a great little adventure game called Kelvin And The Infamous Machine, while his Mongol Empire was having a great run in Civ 5, that is until the Aztecs and Persian Empire attacked in a lethal pincer motion and ruined it. He’s also part of the No Man’s Sky contingent and has been playing as a trader, already amassing a nice bit of money by selling off Emeril and using it to buy a new ship for a tasty 960,000 units.

It’s sad to say that Dave hasn’t had a great time of it, with his Alienware laptop dying a death and a big repair bill looming. Despite that, he did still manage to play some Worms WMD as well as the ubiquitous Pokemon Go, which frankly if I see someone in the street with their phone now I assume they’re just bothering Pidgeys.

Jim makes up the final explorer in the No Man’s Sky posse, though he’s also been drawn into some heavy multiplayer waters in both Overwatch and Uncharted 4. The punctual arrival of Hitman’s summer content made up for the last few remaining moments he could find.

Now then, what have you played?

  1. Well it is safe to say that I for one are not playing No Man’s Sky lol.
I have been playing Batman: Arkham Knight and just got the Platinum a little hour ago. 2nd time round was fun on Knightmare Difficulty, a little bit challenging in some sections but other than that was fun to complete it 2nd time after a year since I first completed it on Normal. Did have some memory problems on the controls for the combat xD
Next game is Metro Last Light until I collect Dues Ex on Launch Day!

  2. I’m playing No Man’s Sky!! Well, I’ve played an hour, much of which was spent trying to get out of a cave I fell down. I now have a colossal pile of plutonium and a poor understanding of the menus, so tonight will feature a lot of coffee and menu molesting. The top tips article has been a handy steer so thanks for that TSA!

    • Oh and I’ve also played some Lego Force Awakens, it’s very simple but charming and a great addition to my collection of Force Awakens junk :)

  3. Im waiting for the review of No Man’s Sky before I jump in, but for now Im playing other space games in VR, namely House of the Dying Sun (Starbuck from BSG simulator) and I also rediscovered Elite Dangerous..

In actual reality, Im also playing Factorio, which is like crack, but more addictive…

    Cracktorio.

  4. 7 Days to Die mostly this week but i’ve started No Man’s Sky now too. Must remember to get some sleep at some point.

    • Sleeping is for wimps ;)

      • I never sleep more than 6 hours but that’s also the minimum necessary amount of sleep so when i get absorbed in a game on a weeknight… work must suffer! ;)

    • Tell me about it! Battlefield 4 keeps pulling me in, played it until 12ish on Wednesday night even though I had to get up for work at 4.50. Not healthy :(

  5. Did a marathon sesh on Borderlands Pre Sequel finnishing True vault hunter and leveling my character from 42 to 50,clearing up other required challenges with the final ones being the grinding towards the annoying grinder challenges Picking up Platinum number 24 in the end,the usual Dead island with R1MJAW and Forrest more Forrest anlong with Toutski and Zerka (again happy 30th Zerka) for Div,played several hours of No Mans Sky and tonight GtaV with R1MJAW Forrest and heedbaw.

  6. The usual Dead island with Forrest and Pixel and GTA online with Forrest, Pixel and heedbaw.
A little Diablo, PGA Tour and Binding of Isaac.
Mostly though it has been No Man’s Sky which I’m thoroughly enjoying … however it does have quite a few problems (both minor and major).

  7. I’m all into walking simulators at the moment. After I finished Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture last week, I played through Firewatch this week. What a fine game! Finally, a believable story..! I started to think that would never happen in a game.
But, the game plays exceptionally well with those typical expectations gamers have. And I was quite glad they didn’t get me, the zombies that kept hiding in the bushes…

Now, I am playing The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, as my next walking sim. So far quite entertaining in a spooky way, some ideas are really great, and some of the riddles quite good. But maybe I just like walking..?

  8. I’ve completed MGS4 a few weeks back. Completed Metro Last Light last week. Got the bad ending. Refuse to try to get the good ending as i don’t want to spend hours using stealth and well, just not interested enough to do a second playthrough. Been Wrassling in WWE2k16(btw 2k17 news about features happened today). Played TLOU recently.

  9. Played a couple of hours of NMS. My first planet had toxic rain so I left there as quickly as I could. Haven’t been back to it since Wednesday and feeling no urge to do so. I’ll dig a little deeper into it this weekend to see if I can build myself a decent impression of it. So far, underwhelmed.

Finally finished Fallout 4 thank goodness. Ended with around a 70% trophy collection rate. All things considered I’d probably plump for a 6/10 on that one.

  10. Picked up No Man’s Sky this week. The combat is clunky and the game runs like dog shit at times but its still easily the best game I’ve played this year. Its been a long time since I’ve found myself drawn into a game but No Man’s Sky has both my Wife and I totally hooked and we keep coming back to it to explore more planets. Thank you Hello Games :)
