Doomfist is easily one of the most highly anticipated characters in the Overwatch universe. Through Sombra, Orisa and Ana, it’s always been Doomfist’s name that has sparked the fanbase’s curiosity, especially when you’ve got Terry Crews champing at the bit to play the character.
It looks like Doomfist is finally going to arrive in the game though, with an in universe news bulletin revealing that the character is both a bad guy, and now on the loose after being broken out from a Helix prison by Reaper. He’s actually the third person in the universe to go by the name, with the first having seemed to be a good guy, and the second a bad guy.
Blizzard’s blog reads:
After recent events in Numbani, it can now be confirmed that what occurred was an attack by the Talon organization with the express purpose of freeing one man: Akande Ogundimu, better known as Doomfist. […]
After escaping from the facility, Helix lost track of Ogundimu until he resurfaced in Numbani, where he clashed with the newly introduced OR15 defense robots at the Adawe International Terminal, easily destroying them and reclaiming the Doomfist.
Further to that, with the handful of characters added to the game since launch, it looks like Blizzard are starting to indulge their darker side, hinting that there could be more villains added to the roster in future.
Helix officials have been unwilling to reveal whether or not there were additional escapees or items taken from the facility, but sources have indicated that it is likely that there were further security breaches in addition to Ogundimu.
In the here and now, this latest teaser suggests that Doomfist will be coming out sooner rather than later. Expect to see a full reveal before the character pops up in the PTR on PC for a spot of balance testing and a release into the wider world soon after.
Of course, the biggest question is whether or not Terry Crews will be voicing him?
